As we bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new, it's the perfect time to renew our commitment to self-care and embrace a holistic approach to beauty, health, and well-being. In 2024, let's prioritize not only our outer beauty but also our inner health and mental well-being. Join me on this journey of self-discovery and self-love as we explore the benefits of facials, massages, saunas, and fabulous haircare routines for a radiant start to the new year. Mindful Beauty for Mental Health: The pursuit of beauty is not just about physical appearance; it's about feeling good from the inside out. Mental health plays a crucial role in our overall well-being. This year, let's prioritize mindfulness and self-awareness. Incorporate activities like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises into your daily routine to calm the mind and reduce stress. Remember, a healthy mind is the foundation for true beauty. Facials: Glow from Within: Start the year by treating your skin to some much-needed pampering with a rejuvenating facial. Facials go beyond surface-level beauty; they promote skin health, reduce stress, and boost confidence. Whether you opt for a hydrating mask, an exfoliating treatment, or a relaxing facial massage, the benefits are bound to leave you with a radiant complexion. Don't forget to choose products with ingredients to nourish your skin and give it the love it deserves. Massage: Unwind and Rejuvenate: Incorporate regular massages into your self-care routine to promote physical and mental well-being. A massage not only relaxes tense muscles but also improves circulation, reduces anxiety, and enhances sleep quality. Whether you prefer a Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, or a hot stone massage, the therapeutic effects are sure to leave you feeling revitalized and ready to conquer the new year. Sauna: Detoxify and Revitalize: Step into the sauna to kickstart your health and beauty resolutions. Saunas offer a range of benefits, from detoxifying the skin to improving cardiovascular health. Sweating in a sauna helps eliminate toxins, cleanses pores, and promotes a healthy, radiant complexion. Make sauna sessions a regular part of your routine to enhance your overall well-being and give your skin that coveted post-sauna glow. Fabulous Hair: A Crown of Confidence : Your hair is your crown, and it deserves royal treatment. Invest in a hair care routine that nourishes and strengthens your locks. Regular trims, deep conditioning treatments, and using quality hair products tailored to your hair type will keep your mane looking fabulous. Don't forget to stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet to promote healthy hair growth from the inside out. Conclusion: Radiate Beauty, Health, and Bliss As we embark on a new year, let's embrace beauty in its truest sense—by nurturing our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Incorporate facials, massages, saunas, and a fabulous haircare routine into your lifestyle, and watch as your radiance shines from the inside out. Here's to a year filled with self-love, confidence, and the pursuit of holistic beauty. Cheers to a more beautiful, healthie r, and happier you in 2024!

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, self-care often takes a back seat. Amidst work deadlines, family obligations, and the constant buzz of technology, it's easy to neglect the very vessel that carries us through life — our skin. This is where the often underestimated but profoundly therapeutic facial comes into play. Beyond being a pampering luxury, regular facials offer a myriad of benefits that extend far beyond the surface. 1. Radiant and Glowing Skin: One of the primary advantages of regular facials is the undeniable improvement in skin texture and tone. Facials involve deep cleansing, exfoliation, and nourishment, which work together to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and stimulate blood circulation. The result? A radiant and healthy complexion that exudes a natural glow. 2. Stress Relief for the Mind and Body: Facials are not just about skincare; they're also a sanctuary for relaxation and stress relief. The gentle touch and soothing ambiance of a spa or skincare clinic create a calming environment that helps alleviate stress and tension. Facial massages, in particular, can reduce anxiety, improve mood, and leave you feeling rejuvenated from head to toe. 3. Customized Solutions for Your Unique Skin Needs: One size does not fit all when it comes to skincare. Professional facials are tailored to your individual skin type and concerns. Whether you battle acne, deal with dryness, or seek anti-aging solutions, a skilled esthetician can assess your skin and recommend treatments and products specifically suited to your needs. 4. Enhanced Blood Circulation: Facial massages and treatments stimulate blood circulation, promoting the delivery of oxygen and essential nutrients to skin cells. Improved blood flow contributes to a healthier complexion by supporting cell turnover, collagen production, and overall skin vitality. 5. Prevention and Reduction of Aging Signs: As we age, our skin loses collagen and elasticity, leading to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Regular facials can slow down this process by boosting collagen production and promoting skin firmness. Anti-aging facials often include ingredients like retinol and antioxidants, which help combat the signs of aging and maintain a youthful appearance. 6. Deep Cleansing and Detoxification: Our skin faces constant exposure to environmental pollutants, dirt, and impurities. Facials provide a thorough cleansing that goes beyond what daily skincare routines can achieve. Professional extraction of blackheads and whiteheads helps prevent breakouts, while detoxifying masks draw out impurities, leaving your skin refreshed and revitalized. 7. Improved Product Absorption: Investing in high-quality skincare products is essential, but their efficacy can be compromised if they don't penetrate the skin effectively. Facials prepare the skin by removing barriers like dead skin cells and unclogging pores, ensuring that your favorite serums and moisturizers can penetrate deeply and work their magic. In conclusion , facials are not just a luxurious treat for your skin; they're a holistic experience that benefits both your physical appearance and mental well-being. Regular facials contribute to a healthier, more vibrant complexion while providing a much-needed escape from the stresses of everyday life. So, the next time you contemplate skipping that spa appointment, remember that treating your skin to a facial is an investment in your overall health and happiness.

So, you’re thinking of treating yourself to a relaxing spa visit? At the end of a particularly busy week, it’s only natural that our mind and body feel exhausted. At these times that it’s safe to say that everyone could benefit from a relaxing spa visit. This is your time to unwind. It’s your time to treat yourself to a rare and cherished moment of relaxation. It’s the time that you owe to yourself for all the hard work and challenges you continue to face week-after-week. – You DO deserve this. If you’re considering a visit to the spa, you should read on. Here listed are ten of the top benefits a spa visit can do for our body, our mind, and our soul. 1. Helps to De-Stress First and foremost, a relaxing spa visit is the best way to de-stress and calm your mind. No matter the treatment, you’re going to notice that your mind immediately begins to feel at ease the moment you enter the spa. From here, you can finally treat yourself to a rare and highly deserved moment of “me” time. We all relax in different ways. For you, relaxing might mean treating your skin with a Luxury Swiss Brightening Facial or a Deep Tissue Massage. It may be the few moments on the sauna where you feel the tensions melt away, or simply it could be having a new color painted on your toes. All these causes you to pause and relax. 2. Helps to Make Skin More Radiant In taking care of your skin with facials, your skin is naturally going to evolve into the best version of itself. This could mean anything from minimizing acne to reducing the look of fine lines and sunspots. Starting at a young age, taking care of our skin is vital. In doing so, we are setting ourselves up to have our best skin possible as we slowly start to age. 3. Enhances Sleep There are many ways a spa day can improve your sleep. The most obvious is that it relaxes your body and mind, which is necessary for adequate sleep. While taking time to relax doesn’t always allow us to rest the way we’d like to, various spa treatments work to do just that by alleviating ailments that hinder our sleep. One study found that stress decreases slow-wave and REM sleep and increases awakenings throughout the night. However, one of the many spa day benefits is stress reduction. Using a spa promotes the release of endorphins which naturally block stress and pain signals from going to the brain. Helping prepare better odds for your body to be able to ease into a deep sleep. 4. Releases Serotonin and Dopamine Did you know that going to the spa can genuinely make you a happier person? As if we didn’t have reason enough, science is now backing us up in why the spa is healthy for the mind and soul. Following a massage, science has found that the body benefits from increased levels of serotonin and dopamine. Therefore, many people who suffer from depression or even seasonal depression choose to regularly treat themselves to a relaxing spa treatment. 5. Helps with Anti-Aging Did you know that your natural antioxidant production begins to decline in your mid 20s? As we know, our skin isn’t exactly one of the elements in life that gets better as you age. Therefore, taking care of your skin and doing your best to prevent aging from a young age is so crucial. Fortunately, there are plenty of spa treatments that can make our skin appear brighter, smoother, and radiantly younger. These are services such as regular facials, micro-needling, light therapy, massage and more. 6. Reduced Headaches If you suffer from headaches, a massage could be just what you’re longing for. This is especially the case for those that experience headaches during intense moments of stress and anxiety. Be it a body-focused massage or a head and scalp treatment, massage helps to target areas of pain within the body. With regular massage, you will help to ease that tension that causes you feel pressure surrounding your temples and your head. 7. Helps to Relieve Pain Have you been experiencing several aches and pains? Perhaps your lower back has been sore from menstrual cramps. Or maybe your arms and shoulders have been feeling the effects of your latest upper-body exercise regime. A massage is a perfect way to work out those kinks and minimize aches and pain. You can bet that you’re going to walk away from your massage feeling significantly more relaxed physically than you were before. And remember those Increased endorphins, serotonin and dopamine hormones. All together this aids in feeling healthier and more relaxed. 8. Improves Blood Flow and Circulation On top of how incredibly relaxing massage can be, it can also benefit our body in that it can improve blood flow and circulation. This helps our body to fend off illness. This is because your lungs, your heart, and your muscles can function more efficiently. You’ll also find that your organs benefit from being in good and working order. 9. Enhances Confidence At the end of the day, you’re going to feel significantly better leaving the spa than you did first arriving at the spa. Taking care of YOURSELF is paramount before you can take on the rest of what is on your plate, whatever that may be, work, family, or illness. 10. DISCONNECT. You get plenty of time for quiet reflection when you’re in the spa. Sometimes we get overwhelmed by how “connected” we are in this day in age. A spa is usually a no phone, no laptop, no Wi-Fi zone so you can truly get away from the world. Which, nowadays, is a rare luxury. Not sure where to start? Challenges spark determination. Challenges spark a determination in us to remain standing, regardless of the circumstances. Tough times are a part of life. They give us opportunities to test our strengths, and often time to reflect on where we have our sights and goals. In this new era of a Covid economy, financial stability can difficult, doing the right thing can be difficult, but we remain undaunted. When we are sent challenges, we must rise to the occasion and be better. Blue Door Spa & Salon and its team have truly risen to the challenges set forth. We have made your wellbeing and care our primary focus. I’d like to say that we’ll never experience another year like 2020, and I hope I’m correct. But while 2020 was brutal in many aspects for personal care businesses, there are some definite “humankind” positives moving forward as people have adapted, enjoying more time with family and embracing wellness like never before. The tolls of social distancing, working from home, and widespread lockdowns have created a strong desire for human touch and connection. The staff at Blue Door truly know and understand the value of that connection and we are happy to accommodate. Mindbody launched the 2021 Wellness Index, surveying nearly 20,000 Americans. An amazing 78% of them said that wellness is now more important than ever It is not just the physical touch that is important, but increasingly, and (not just because of lock downs and social distancing), but our mental health has become a long overdue focus point. Covid-19, has in a way forced us to think more about our mindset and how we handle things in a positive manner. We really do have to think of ourselves as a whole; The mental and the physical. So, take care of YOU, by allowing the team at Blue Door Spa to keep pampering on you all. We are 100% committed to being everything you need, even if it is just to chat. IS MASSAGE GOOD FOR YOUR MENTAL HEALTH?
By KAREN ASQUITH - DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AT G.M. COLLIN 03 May, 2021
The days are getting longer, bringing the joyful anticipation of the spring and warmer days. For many of us, our skin has had to combat the harshness of the cold and dry winter weather. Our skin feels parched, looks tired, and needs a springtime savior. As every season changes, so do the needs of our skin. This is the time to schedule that much needed appointment with your aesthetician, to have your skin analyzed and treated with your new springtime skin care regimen. The first thing to schedule is a chemical peel, formulated with 30% AHA and/or BHA, to eliminate the dead and dry cells from your skin. When the build up is gone, the skin can be infused with nourishing serums and creams specifically chosen and personalized for your unique skin concerns. An occlusive Algomask is then applied to optimize the penetration of ingredients into the skin. This extreme hydrating and soothing mask will help to restore the appearance of your skin and provide a silky, soft feeling we all desire. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) are water-soluble acids derived mainly from fruit acids or synthetic formulations. Lactic, glycolic, and mandelic acids are used alone or in combination in the G.M. Collin peels. Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) are lipid-soluble or oil-soluble, derived from wintergreen leaves, and sweet birch and willow barks. Salicylic acid is the most commonly used BHA. Due to its oil solubility, it is normally used in products formulated for oily to acne-prone skin. G.M. Collin at Blue Door Spa & Salon offers 4 types of chemical peels to: Promote exfoliation of the skin’s surface layers Remove dead skin cells Improve the texture of the skin Reduce the visible signs of aging Diminish the appearance of hyperpigmentation Reduce the appearance of acne scars Brighten the complexion Leave the skin feeling silky soft In general, peels are contraindicated for extremely sensitive or irritated skin. 1. Lactic Acid Peel Indicated for dry, flaky skin presenting the fine lines signalling the first signs of aging. Contains lactic acid and vitamins C & E for increased antioxidant protection. 2. Derm Renewal Peel Indicated for fine lines, wrinkles and congested skin of all types. Contains lactic and glycolic acid in combination with arginine to provide a non-irritating exfoliation. Added zinc and copper amino acids assist to hydrate the skin. 3. Glycolic Peel An intensive peel for lines and wrinkles, photo-aging, dull skin and imperfections. Contains glycolic acid in combination with GALA (EPIGALLOCATECHIN GALLATYL GLUCOSIDE (Stabilized EGCG)) derived from green tea, and gallyl glucoside (Stabilized GALA) derived from Oak, for a powerful antioxidant effect. 4. Salicylic Peel Indicated for oily, acne-prone skin. Contains salicylic, mandelic, and glycolic acid to relieve blocked pores and ameliorate the redness and swelling associated with acne. Seasonal skin analysis is a must for everyone. Seasons change and your product repertoire needs to change with them to keep looking as good as you feel!
